August 21, 2010 Zimba no more |
|
I realized I totally forgot to tell you that our cute little puppy has died. Rene and I were gone on a short break and received a message that Zimba was killed while one of our drivers parked the car in the drive -way of our teamhouse. He was a cute little dog and we are sad he is no more.

Food Distribution August 9-15, 2010 |
This week I found myself, together with my assistant and translator, Jacqueson; as well as the Social Worker from the hospital we work with, getting involved with every family in the FSP (Family Sponsorship Program) as we had a food distribution. It was great meeting them all again, in total we have 68 families with a total of 348 people in the program registered and more on the waiting list. Their stories and living situations still sad and with the rains coming down each night, sleeping under a tarp or a tent is not ideal. Yet to see them and share with them why we are doing what we are doing was great.

June 22, 2010 Kouman ou ye? |
|
Moi bien, mėsi! (Creole for How are you? Fine thank you!) We spent a wonderful weekend away from Port au Prince. Some donors from Europe came to check out the progress of the renovation of a project in St. Mark and we went with them, after visiting the site we were also taken around and saw some tent cities. St Mark did not suffer the earthquake like PaP and the people in the tents are refugees from the capitol...

Haiti a country we call "home" June 3, 2010 |
Haiti a mostly mountainous country with a tropical climate, Haiti's location, history and culture - once made it a potential tourist hot spot, but instability and violence, especially since the 1980s, have severely dented that prospect. Haiti became the world's first black-led republic and the first independent Caribbean state when it threw off French colonial control and slavery in a series of wars in the early 19th century. On various occasions, Haiti has experienced political violence throughout its history However, decades of poverty, environmental degradation, violence, instability and dictatorship have left it as the poorest nation in the Americas. Haiti ranking 150th out of 192 countries on the Human Development Index, is the poorest country in the Americas

Moved into the Team House May 30, 2010 |
|
Yes it is true, we did it, we left Quisqueya Christian School were humedica has had their camp since two days after the earthquake. Saturday May 29th was the day that we moved all 19 of us (including the Leogane team) and we now are living at the humedica Team House. It is only a 5 minutes drive from the school compound, where we still will have our offices, to the house. It is a nice house with 5 bedrooms (or 7 pending how you are counting), a covered open balcony and a large living room area. Of course there is a kitchenl. The move was rather easy as all the furniture etc. are still in the Dominican Republic. All we needed to do was: pack up your bed and go ! We ...
